Well-known Finnish mixed choir ‘Dominante’ will give a one-night performance at the Tuoi Tre (Youth) Theater in Hanoi on March 6.
The event is jointly organized by the Vietnamese Centre for Arts Performance and the Finnish embassy in Vietnam.
Established in 1975, Dominante is one of the most well-known mixed choirs in Finland. As a choir within the Helsinki University of Technology campus, it consists mostly of students from Aalto University, the University of Helsinki and the Sibelius Academy.
During the past three decades under the baton of conductor Seppo Murto, Dominante has become a very popular choral group in Finland thanks to its versatile repertoire ranging from traditional to ultramodern choral music as well as songs from musicals and orchestral works. Individual training by its professional vocal coaches is also essential in shaping the choir’s unique sound.
Dominante recently worked with the Finnish National Opera, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonia, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra with some famous conductors such as Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Leif Segerstam and Helmuth Rilling.
The choir has toured the world and visited countries on all continents, most recently the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong and Macau (China) in November 2009 and Denmark in 2011.
It has also appeared on more than twenty recordings, their latest, an a cappella recording entitled Lempeä, was awarded Record of the Year by The Finnish Choral Directors' Association in 2009.
In 2010 they participated in recording the complete works of Jean Sibelius for the BIS record label. Dominante's performance of these choral works for mixed choir have been critically acclaimed across Europe.
The group’s members are also encouraged to take part in numerous vocal group activities and many of the choir's quartets and quintets have won prizes in national competitions. Serenades and off-stage singing are essential parts of Dominante that makes people all around the world remember this youthful, dynamic and dedicated group of singers.
