According to the central Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center, today’s early morning (third day of the lunar New Year) is very cold in the north while the south is sunny.

The cold front is affecting the northeastern region, central northern region and the northwestern area. Sporadic rains also occured.

The Gulf of Tonkin and the East Sea (including area surrounding the Hoang Sa – Paracel – islands) are undergoing northeastern winds blowing at force 7 with strong seas.

The cold is forecast to continue for the next 4-6 days.

The northwestern region is forecast to have light rains and winds this afternoon and tonight with temperatures ranging from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius, except for certain parts in the Dien Bien – Lai Chau area that could be very warm (23-25 degrees Celsius).

The northeastern region will also have light rains with temperatures ranging from 4 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi will have light rains with temperatures from 9 to 15 degrees Celsius.

In the central region, provinces of Thanh Hoa and Thua Thien Hue will also be cold, with the mercury fluctuating from 12-19 Celsius degrees.

However, areas from Da Nang to Binh Thuan will be much warmer (temperatures from 18-30 degrees Celsius).

The western Highlands will be sunny without rains at night with temperatures ranging from 16-30 degrees Celsius.

As for the southern region, it is sunny without rains at night. The area will be from warm to hot with temperatures at 22-32 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, due to an intensifying cold front, from 1-7am today morning, temperatures at the Mau Son tourism zone in the northern mountainous province of Lang Son dropped to minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.

The area is enveloped in snow and winds blowing at force 6.

Ha Van Tien, director of the local weather forecasting agency said that in the past three days, temperatures in Mau Son have continuously dropped by 0.2 to 1 degree Celsius per day.
