Hanoi sets deadlines for four major overpass projects

Municipal officials in Hanoi urged Department of Transport to speed up constructions of major overpasses to ease traffic jams around construction sites.

After an inspection at construction sites at Lang Ha-Thai Ha and Chua Boc-Thai Ha, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Khoi ordered these projects to be completed this year.

According to directives, Lang Ha-Thai Ha and Chua Boc-Thai Ha overpasses will have an trial-opening in May 2012, a month earlier than scheduled. In order to complete the projects on time, Hanoi Department of Transport will be required to provide contractors with the funds to buy materials. It has to quickly check and take over the overpasses when completed but still have to follow the receiving procedures such as the testing of piles.

The Department of Transport will also have to cooperate with Hanoi Police to adjust traffic flow once the overpasses are completed.

The other two major overpass projects, Lang-Nguyen Chi Thanh and Lang-LeVan Luong, were now also have to speed up their schedule. Department of Transport, the Transport Engineering Design Incorporated along with relevant agencies will have to send projects to Department of Planning and Investment to be assessed before February 17. Both of the overpasses' constructions are scheduled to start in March.

The Lang-Le Van Luong overpass is designed to be 281 metres in length and 12 metres in width, with an estimated cost of VND228 billion (USD10,924,772). The overpass at Lang Ha-Thai Ha will be 220 metres long and 12 metres wide, with estimated cost of VND222 billion (USD10, 637,278).
