Lax management of parking lots by local authorities in Hanoi will be punished.
Police tackle an illegal parking lot
On February 8, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao signed a resolution to strictly punish illegal parking lot owners and local authorities for the lax approach to the problem in an attempt to tackle illegal parking lots in Hanoi.
Thao said the current measures to raze illegal parking lots are still too easy-going. Many illegal parking lots still operate in Hanoi, obstructing roads and causing concern to the public. Some parking lots already exposed by the media remain still in use.
The departments of Transport, Construction, Finance and Police are required to inspect and severely punish any violations.
On February 6, Hanoi People’s Committee sent an official request to the Department of Transport and its agencies asking it to ban the use of pavements and roads for parking on 262 streets. Business licenses for parking lot operators were also revoked.
