Farmers in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue still plough, sow seeds and transplant rice seedlings for the fifth-month crop in very cold weather. Many people have to wear raincoats or drink hot tea to keep their bodies warm.

From the early morning, farmers in Phu Vang, Huong Tra, Phu Loc districts of Thua Thien-Hue province work in the field.

Farmers and their buffaloes work in rain and cold. This buffalo sometimes pauses because of cold.

The field is quickly covered by rice seedlings. It is very cold so transplanters have to wear raincoats and masks. In recent years, some families have had to hire transplanters. These workers earn highly, around VND200,000 ($10) a day.

Some people have to warm up their bodies by hot tea.

A hot tea pot on rice field edges is very familiar.

This man says that though it is cold, all farmers want to finish rice transplantation before Tet holiday, which will come this weekend.
