Traffic accidents in VIetnam have claimed 183 lives and injured 126 people in the first two weeks of 2012, according to statistics from the country's Road and Railway Traffic Police Department.
Among 205 accidents which occurred between January 1 and 14, three serious road accidents in Lam Dong, Quang Ninh and Ha Tinh provinces killed 10 people, it said.
There have been nine railway accidents which have killed three people and injured five others, according to the report.
In two weeks, traffic police have confiscated more than 300 cars and 9,200 motorbikes in 90,700 cases where motorists had violated traffic laws.
The department has sent more traffic police officers and supporting equipment to coordinate with local traffic police units on National Highway 1A in order to handle traffic violators during the Lunar New Year holidays.
