The Vietnamese Government chief made the call on February 22 in Hà Nội during his working session with the VWU.

PM Dũng proposed that the VWU should focus on realizing the UN Millennium Development Goals on women, assisting its members in developing household-based economy, supervising the implementation of gender equality policies and preventing domestic violence as well as woman trafficking.

The PM stressed the importance of training, generating jobs, and raising incomes for female workers especially those living in rural and remote areas.

VWU President Nguyễn Thị Thanh Hòa reported that the Union has saved over VND 142 billion, and over 1,000 tons of rice and paddy to back poor households.

Especially, the VWU has joined in carrying out the national new rural construction program and contributed to promoting socio-economic development. The Union has mobilized women to boost production, exercise thrift practice, implement social welfare policy and assist the poor./.
