The municipal People's Committee has decided to impose VND30 million (US$1,420) fines on 11 fuel dealers who were caught selling substandard gasoline.
Their business licences have also been revoked for a year.
The dealers were caught mixing A92 and A95 gasoline with the lower quality A83 variety, deceiving customers by selling substandard products that were likely to damage motor vehicles' engines, according to the HCM City People's Committee.
The authority also requested relevant organisations to check gas and petrol products from dealers with octane-testing equipment, and immediately stop violators' business.
