Participants include defense ministers from all ten ASEAN members and eight dialogue partners, namely Russia, the United States of America, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
Initiated by Việt Nam, ADMM+ is a unique forum as defense ministers of big and small countries with different ideologies come here to equally discuss ways toward a peaceful and prosperous Asia-Pacific region, said Mr. Vịnh.
A well-organized ADMM+ will be the best place for participating countries to build mutual confidence. It also provides ASEAN with a good chance to draw its partners’ resources to address security issues.
Defense ministers to the event will raise their own security concerns, then exchange and agree on common issues for future cooperation.
PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng will deliver a keynote speech at the plenary session.
It is expected that defense ministers will adopt a Joint Statement.
Việt Nam plans to raise issues like a regional emerging architecture and non-traditional challenges at ADMM+, said Mr. Vịnh.
This year’s ADMM+, as Mr. Vịnh said, takes place when ASEAN is seeing a stage of ever stronger development attached with the bloc’s desire for peace and stability in the context non-traditional security issues become widespread. Meanwhile ,ASEAN’s partners are increasingly engaging in the regional cooperation.
