On behalf of the Party and State, Mr Triet expressed his condolences to flood victims in Khanh Hoa province and asked its forces to be alert around the clock to provide timely rescue. The president also requested they provide updated information on floods to local people, especially in the river basins and other flood-prone areas.
He also proposed they be more proactive in evacuating people from areas vulnerable to landslides or inundation.
President Triet asked local authorities to provide sufficient food, drinking water, medicine, clothes and other essentials for people affected by the floods.
In recent days, heavy rain killed one person, and left three missing, as well as flooding over 5,000 houses, destroying more than 450 houses, and inundating more than 12,000ha of agricultural land. It also killed an estimated 7,000 cattle.
Floodwaters damaged many roads and a reservoir, and blocked traffic for hours.
The aggregate losses inflicted on the province are estimated at VND800 billion.
The same day, President Triet visited Khanh Hoa province, where the flood water had begun to recede. Mr Triet asked the provincial People’s Committee to clear up flood-affected areas and warned them about the possible upcoming rains and further floods.
Mr Triet also told the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to provide seeds for Khanh Hoa province. He proposed the government assist the province with VND30 billion and 500 tonnes of rice for recovery.
