Ten sea reserves and 19 inland waters reserves will have been established and put into use by 2015, according to a national program on protecting and developing seafood resources till 2020.

Under the program, which has been recently approved by the PM, by 2020, Vietnam will have a total of 16 sea reserves and 45 inland waters reserves, and 3 sea animal rescue stations in the Northern, Central and Southern regions.
Besides, some typical ecosystems such as corals, seaweeds and mangrove forests in waters areas crucial for protecting sea resources will be restored.
By 2015, the country will complete the planning of areas which are prohibited for fishing aquatic creatures or fishing in a limited period, and publicize the list of banned fishing-related occupations and subjects.
By 2020, coastal seafood resources, especially seafood used as materials for key traditional products, will be basically rehabilitated.
