Binh Dinh province needs to tap its internal strength and take full advantage of sea ports, airports, particularly the Quy Nhon port – an entrepot for southern central and Central Highlands provinces, to achieve sustainable development.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung visits Regiment 940 and Division 372 of the air force stationed in Binh Dinh.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the remark during his two-day working visit to the southern central province of Binh Dinh on January 31-February 1.

PM Dung held a working session with key provincial officials on ways to implement socio-economic tasks and remove snags to promote sustainable development in 2012.

In the immediate future, Binh Dinh should focus on removing difficulties facing agricultural production and seafood sectors, and finding solutions to support business operations, enhance administrative reform, and reduce poverty.

He also made his comments on the province’s proposals regarding socio-economic planning for Binh Dinh as part of the Central Highlands region, support for essential infrastructure projects, investment incentives for key tourism destinations and wind power.

PM Dung praised great efforts by the Party, authorities and people of Binh Dinh in the last year to obtain achievements in all fields, especially agricultural production, which achieved a relatively high growth of 4.5 percent.

He also pointed out weaknesses that need to be resolved such as the high percentage of poor households, small economic scale, limited investment inflow and ineffective administrative reforms.

Binh Dinh recorded a GDP growth of 10.3 percent in 2011, reduce the number of poor households to 14.3 percent and created new jobs for 24,000 labourers.

This year, the province aims for a GDP growth rate of 11 percent, 25,000 new jobs, a 2 percent reduction in the number of poor households and a increase forest coverage of 46.7 percent.

The province is also determined to boost production and increase the productivity, quality and efficiency of the local economy, while giving priority to curbing inflation, stabilising the macroeconomy and ensuring social welfare, national defence and security.

During his visit, PM Dung also visited Regiment 940 and Division 372 of the air force stationed in the province, stressing the importance of national defence.
