VN-Index retreats for second day

Stocks on Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange stayed in the red for the second day on July 1, as slumping US stock markets placed psychological pressure on investors.

VN-Index, a gauge of 243 companies and four mutual funds, dropped 0.62 percent, or 3.12 points, to close at 504.02.

 

Of the index, 66 stocks gained, 141 declined, while 40 remained unchanged. Trading volume fell by 15 percent over the previous session to 47.2 million shares, worth VND1.12 trillion.

 

Saigon Telecommunication & Technologies Corporation (SGT), which gave up 4.9 percent to VND23,300, led the losers on the city bourse.

 

From July 5 to August 5, Tran Thi Hoai Thu, wife of Huynh Ngoc Huy – deputy general director of Saigon Telecommunication & Technologies Corporation (SGT), registered to buy 981,000 shares, increasing her holdings to 1 million shares.

 

Stationary producer and trader Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) lost 4.86 percent to VND35,200.

 

The Hanoi-based Phuc Tien Trade Manufacture Joint Stock Company (PHT) dipped 4.85 percent.

 

Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT) was the most active share in volume with 3.5 million shares changing hands, adding the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent.

 

Viet - Han Corporation (VHG) followed with 2.23 million shares. The company’s shares traded down 2.87 percent.

 

Vien Dong Investment Development Trading Corporation (VID) came in third with 1.63 million shares being traded.

 

On June 22, Mai Lan Joint Stock Company sold 200,000 shares of Vien Dong Investment Development Trading Corporation (VID) to balance its investment category, sending its holdings to 39,910 shares, accounting for 0.19 percent of VID’s chartered capital.

 

DESCON Construction Corporation (DCC) also advanced 5 percent to VND27,300. Godaco Seafood Joint Stock Company (AGD) and Sao Mai Construction Corporation (ASM) added up 4.9 percent to VND38,500 and VND53,500 respectively.

 

From May 2 to June 22, Le Van Ba, brother of Le Thi Phuong – chief accountant of Sao Mai Construction Corporation (ASM), bought 1,000 shares for personal investment.

 

The HNX-Index lost 0.83 points, or 0.52 percent, to 157.98. Around 30.3 million shares changed hands at VND900 billion.
